From the Castle Cellars to the Tower

Tour IV. Explore the castle cellars and discover historic technology, including 19th-century boilers and an electrical distribution room dating from 1914, followed by a climb to the castle’s landmark Clock Tower. This is a seasonal tour. Depending on the weather, it may occasionally be open at weekends in September, from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Tours are conducted in Czech only.

From the Castle Cellars to the Tower is a separate tour and only takes place in favourable weather conditions.
  • The tour lasts approximately 45 minutes.
  • Maximum capacity: 10 visitors.
  • The tour is not suitable for children under the age of six or visitors with reduced mobility.
  • Sturdy footwear is recommended. You may also wish to bring binoculars.
  • For safety reasons, the tour does not operate during very hot weather, rain, strong winds or other adverse weather conditions. Thank you for your understanding.

The tour begins in the castle kitchen, where delicacies were once prepared for the Count’s table. It then continues into the lowest parts of the castle cellars, where visitors can see the castle’s former underground ice chamber, the small original electrical distribution room dating from 1914 and a system of boilers that heated the ground floor with hot air.

The highlight of the tour is the final climb above the castle rooftops to its most prominent landmark—the Clock Tower. After climbing 138 steps, visitors reach the gallery of the 26.7-metre-high tower. In favourable weather, the views extend as far as Trosky Castle and the summit of Ještěd.
